Barra de Navidad (Christmas Shoal) is a small community located in the delta of the Colotepec river, approximately 4 miles from Puerto Escondido. Considered like a special sanctuary of wildlife, where mangrove swamp vegetation predominates, Barra de Navidad offers touristic routes on foot, in bicycle or oars boats around the Palma Sola lagoon.
In Barra de Navidad you can know many of the 37 species of birds that live in the area, or, in May and June, 27 species of migratory birds. Visit the turtle camp, or see the impressive crocodiles in its natural habitat. Enjoy the beautiful landscape of the shoal, or admire the gorgeous sunset, listening the singing of the birds that gather before to take refuge in the mangrove swamps.
